Karina Guevin and Cedric Ginart
"HAPPILY, EVER AFTER"
May 20 - 24, 2024 (5-day workshop)


Students' inherent creativity will be stimulated in this course focusing on building a solid foundation of technical skill at the torch. Working with borosilicate glass, students will learn a wide variety of flameworking techniques using rod and tubing. Demonstrations will range from blowing, sculpting, and assembling with unusual twists for creating visual impact. Assignments and individual projects will help students develop a personal language to manifest ideas into art.

This class will use borosilicate (hard) glass. One year of flameworking experience is required.

This class meets from 9am to 5pm each day, Monday through Friday, with additional studio time Monday through Thursday, from 5pm to 9pm. Materials for participating in the course are included. If you have specific colors you are interested in working with please bring them with you. 

Cedric Ginart
While studying biochemistry, Cedric Ginart feel in love with scientific glassblowing, he decided to take a course in scientific glassblowing at the lycée Dorian (Paris), from which he graduated in 1995; he moved to Quebec a year later.  
Over the years, he has worked with scientists, artists, industrialists, designers and architects on experimental projects, on creating unique artwork, prototypes, and limited-run installations.  
Cédric's artwork is part of private and museum collections, such as the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery, Niijima Glass museum. He periodically showcases hand torch glassblowing techniques in festivals and events in Canada and the United States. Cédric works at Montreal University (Qc) as a scientific glassblower, while pursuing a widely-recognized artistic career.

Karina Guevin 
Karina Guevin is a French Canadian glass artist Her playful flamework sculptures inspired by popular legend, stories and happily ever after tales has been recognized with a Francois-Houdé Award and grants from the Canadian and Québec Consul for the Arts, La SODEC, and a Gilles Verville grant in visual art. Guévin is regularly invited to teach in many studios including the Studio of the Corning Museum of Glass, Penland, Pilchuck, Nijiima, Pratt and the Pittsburgh Glass Center. Her work is part of many collections and has been showed in North America, in Europe and in Asia. She is always ready for news adventures!

Additional Information

- Participation limited to students 18 years of age and up.
- Lunch is available for an additional fee; $100 for 5-day workshops. 
- Classes meet 9 am to 5 pm each day. Students will have additional practice time the first four evenings of the course, Monday through Thursday, from 5 pm to 9 pm.  
- Materials for participating in the course are included. If you have specific colors you are interested in working with please bring them with you.
- Any work from the final day of the course remaining in a kiln will be available for pick up beginning the following Monday. Students may have finished worked shipped for an additional fee.
